Gladys Beers, age 93, of Brainerd, Minnesota died January 14, 2003 at the Greater Staples Care Center.
Gladys Ellen Beers was born on March 19, 1909 in Graettinger, Iowa daughter of David and Adda (Swift) Hunter. In 1912 they moved to Estherville, Iowa where they made their home until 1918 when they moved to Motley, Minnesota. Gladys attended school in Estherville and Motley where she graduated from high school in 1927. She became an elementary school teacher and taught for 37 years. She taught for 12 years in Todd, Cass, Crow Wing and Morrison counter and later for 25 years in Itasca County District #318 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She was a member of the Minnesota Education Association for 51 years, the Retired Teachers Association of Grand Rapids and Brainerd, Minnesota, the Motley United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of Motley and Park Methodist Church Circle of Brainerd. She was a member and past Noble Grand of Rebecca Evergreen Lodge #36 in Motley. Gladys was married to Harry Franklin Beers on April 15, 1933 at the Staples United Methodist Church by Reverend Stidd. They farmed north of Motley for 9 years. They left there to work in Spokane and Seattle, Washington and later in Great Falls, Montana. Coming back to Minnesota they then lived in Grand Rapids from 1945 ? 1975 and retired in Brainerd.

Gladys is survived by a daughter, Dawn Ellen Beers Schroeder of Rochester, MN; two grandchildren, Jason and Marissa Schroeder, one sister Adeline Peterson of Motley; a brother Paul (Mary) Beers, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her husband Harry of 63 years parents, two sisters, Agnes Martin and Mayme Jenkins preceded her in death.

Services will be on Saturday, January 18 at 2 PM at the Motley United Methodist Church, Motley, Minnesota with Reverend Richard Collman officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, January 17 from 4 ? 7 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples. Burial will be in Evergreen Hills Cemetery in Staples.
