Geraldine Johnson, 94, of Merrifield, passed away on May 28, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11am on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake with a visitation one hour prior.
Geraldine was born on January 20, 1931, to Gerald and Theresa (Bluett) McCarthy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from Holy Angels High School in Richfield, Minnesota. In 1952, she married Russell Johnson and the couple lived in Richfield before moving to Burnsville in 1965. She was a homemaker and raised their 5 children. Russell and Geraldine retired to Horseshoe Lake in Merrifield in 1989.
While raising her family, Gerry enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling in their pickup camper. She was active in various church groups and enjoyed socializing with friends. After retiring to the lake, she welcomed many visiting family and friends and enjoyed her flower garden, weekly card games, occasional trips to the casino and pontoon boat rides. She remained an active member of the church as long as she could. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Geraldine is survived by her sons, William (Beth) Johnson, of Northome, James (Sally) Johnson, of Peterson, Glenn (Ramona) Johnson, of Lakeville and Brian Johnson, of Merrifield; six grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Theresa McCarthy; husband, Russell; and daughter, Theresa Johnson.
Special thanks to neighbor Darlene Hayes, the church of Immaculate Heart and to Hank Schnienost, a Eucharistic minister of Immaculate Heart, and to the caregivers of Good Samaritan Hospice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
