Gary Mathison

June 25, 1937 — March 6, 2024

Baxter

Gary Mathison, 86, of Baxter, left this life on March 6, 2024, and entered into his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday March 24, 2024, at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Baxter. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service at the church.

Gary was born on June 25, 1937, in Brainerd, MN to Ervil and Florence Mathison. He met and married the love of his life, Janice, on October 19, 1956. Gary spent his working years as a Lithographer. After retirement, he enjoyed being a Valet-parker at Essentia Health. He loved this position and was there for 17 years. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Baxter/Brainerd.

He enjoyed downhill skiing, camping and different adventures while traveling. He stayed busy tinkering and was able to fix just about anything. Gary was an excellent storyteller. He was able to capture the hearts and minds of so many people through his stories. Chocolate chip cookies didn’t last long in Gary and Janice’s home. He loved his sweets and cookies.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Janice (Goedderz) Mathison, children Monica (Tim) Andrew of Baxter, Tamara (Duane) Pearce of Cedar Falls, IA, Daniel of Baxter, grandchildren Thomas (Krissy) Andrew, Alissa (Jimmy) Roberts, Tasha (James) Miller, Emily (Scotty) Russell, Tara (Brian) Borg, and Maxwell Mathison, and 12 great grandchildren.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Ervil and Florence, and his brother Denny.

Gary’s personal desire is for everyone to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and make their Faith the most important in their life.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
