Eleanor “Ellie” H Leyendecker, age 95, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2022 at her Assisted Living home Golden Horizons. She is preceded in death by her son Lee, husband Wilfred Leyendecker, Mae Tamillo and Joseph Tamillo.
Eleanor was born in Duluth Minnesota to Margaret and Joseph Tamillo. In 1954, she married Wilfred, and they made a loving home in Plymouth, Minnesota. She was the dynamo of her family, holding down a job with U.S. Dept of Labor and assisting with the bookkeeping of her husband’s business Will’s Transmissions. She and Will raised their 3 sons with a firm but loving hand. They spent countless weekends and vacations camping, hunting, fishing and loving the outdoors. In 1960, they built a cabin on Daggett Lake in the Crosslake area. This was their dream, and it eventually became their retirement home. Ellie jumped into life, involved with the church, charities and helping her neighbors. She became a member of the Red Hat Society and socialized with friends and worked on good causes.
In 2011, she moved into Golden Horizons and made many new friends with staff and residents. She was known as Miss Ellie.
Survived by sons Mark (Susan) and Scott (Kim Koch), her brother Jack Tamillo (Donna), and many nieces.
Our family is deeply grateful for the compassion and care given by the many aides and nurses at Golden Horizons in the last 11 years.
A memorial will be held at Golden Horizons, 13631 E. Shores Rd, Crosslake MN on Monday, Feb. 28 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm. All are invited.
