Donald Mork was born on April 4, 1943, in Owatonna, MN. He was the eldest son of Truman and Sedora Mork. Soon after his birth, he was called to Gods holy family through Baptism, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, MN and later he was confirmed into the Christian faith at Hauge Lutheran Church in Kenyon, MN.
Donald studied at 3 different colleges, always heavily involved in the various sciences. He met his wife and lifelong partner while attending Mankato State in 1965. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN on May 27, 1967.
Don worked for Honeywell Defense Corp for nearly 30 years where he worked on a wide array of military hardware. After that he worked for Marquip Inc of Phillips, WI as a field service Engineer where he traveled the world with his suitcase, computer and toolbox, fixing heavy industrial equipment. He logged 1.7 million miles just on NW airlines. He logged 3000 nights in hotels during his working career.
He moved to Nisswa and made a life for himself and his beloved Bonnie. He led a full adventure filled life. Don held a summer job as camp handyman at a wilderness fishing camp on the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories Canada. He and Bonnie made numerous camping trips to the Midwest and western parks. He was a scuba diver until breaking an eardrum diving on the ship Madera near Split Rock Lighthouse. He was also active in building and racing 4x4 jeeps off road. He became a licensed pilot belonging to a flying club.
His most persisting passion was snowmobiling. Experiencing Gods handy work in the quiet of the northern winters was a constant source of pleasure and wonder. Temperatures made little difference; -30 degrees F was just fine, however the -52F was a little extreme. Probably the one regret he had was not making the 800-mile 10-day dog sled trip from White Horse to Dawson City Yukon. In the words of the Outfitter, with this global warming, it hardly ever gets to -65F anymore.’
In retirement he was active in Nisswa Lions, Gull Lake Drifters, Geritol Frolics, and held several positions in his church, Christ Lutheran in Baxter.
Like nearly all of the Mork relation, Don battled cancer for many years. But eventually he grew tired of the battle, and the Lord saw his need and took him home on October 5, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MN Lions Vision Foundation (1000 Westgate Dr, #260, St. Paul, MN 55114) – general fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter.
