Don Lee Cate, 79, of Minnesota, passed away on May 14, 2025. Born on August 3, 1945, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Leon and Evelyn (Peterson) Cate, Don led a life marked by service, curiosity, and deep devotion to his family.

A proud veteran, Don served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis from 1963 to 1966. Following his military service, he brought his talents and work ethic to Western Electric, Suntech Solar Systems during the Carter Administration, and later to Kurt Manufacturing in the field of robotics. Don was known by many as a true “Mr. Fix It”.

On March 21, 1970, Don married the love of his life, Gabrielle Simmet, in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Together, they built a life full of adventure and love, celebrating 55 years of marriage.

Don enjoyed boating on Gull Lake, deer hunting, and spending time at the family property in Stanchfield, MN. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren, whom he adored beyond words.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gabrielle; sons Donald (Marisa) Cate and Barron (Angela) Cate; grandchildren Carter, Dalton, Allison, Rory, and Brooks Cate; and nephews Roy and Ross Malmberg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane (Dean) Malmberg.
