David Dickinson passed away on April 2, 2026 in Brainerd, Mn. He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on September. 25, 1935. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Iowa State, he enlisted in the Navy. He achieved high honors, becoming a lieutenant. He furthered his education to become a Psychology professor. David was well respected in the Austin, Mn community for his teaching skills at Austin Community College (now Riverland College), and his coaching skills. David taught Psychology at the college as well as becoming a tennis team coach and summer tennis coach. David was an assistant women’s basketball coach, and coached track as well. His encouragement and praise meant a lot to many of his students, leading several to a Hall of Fame honor. David was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a coach of honor at the college, also.
David was active in his church in Austin, Mn at Our Saviors Lutheran. He sang in the choir there, as well as Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, Mn. Crosslake is where he and Marti Dickinson attended church, while living on little Trout Lake, outside of Emily, Mn. David always wanted to retire “up north”. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking, reading, and keeping a beautiful yard. His family loved spending time with him. He loved to research family history and genealogy, and shared it with them with great enthusiasm. It will be appreciated for years to come. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was devoted in taking good care of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Marti Dickinson, Children , Shelley Johnson (Bruce), Nancy Norberg (Kendal), John Dickinson, Grandchildren, Amy Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Nicole Norberg, Maddie Norberg, Tia Neadeau, Michael Griffiths, Logan and Nick Eickhoff and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters Wendy Eickhoff and Mary Griffiths, and grandchildren Allison Norberg and Tommy Griffiths. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, April 11 at Crosslake Lutheran Church. The address is 35960 County Rd 66, PO Box 248, Crosslake, Mn, 56442. There will be a lunchen in Fellowship Hall following the service.
