Curtis Orille "Curt" Wannebo, age 94, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society - Bethany, in Brainerd. Curtis was born to Otto and Myrle (Thompson) Wannebo on April 15, 1922, in Barronette, Wisconsin. The family moved to Minneapolis in 1929 and to Manhattan Beach in 1942. He served in the Army during World War II repairing B-29 Superfortresses. In 1946, he opened a garage and used car business -- Wannebo Sales and Service-which he operated until 1984. He could quickly rattle off the detailed car histories of all his loyal customers, who often travelled long distances for his quality service. He also served for years on the Manhattan Beach village council. In 1966, he began his 50 year marriage to Dorothy Jensen, who assisted both the home and the business, accompanying him to Minneapolis every weekend to pick up used cars. When not performing surgery on cars, he enjoyed duck and deer hunting, bowling and golfing. He spent many of his retirement days "flogging" down the fairways of the Pine River Country Club and other area golf courses.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Erik (Laura Gastel); grandchildren, Jonah and Linae; brother-in-law, Lon Musolf; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Vivian Tweedy, Lucille Thomson and Dona Musolf; brother, Guy Wannebo; infant brother, Leslie Wannebo; sister-in-law, MaryAnn Wannebo; brothers-in-law: George Thomson, Conway Tweedy, and LeRoy Satherlie.
