Curtis Peterson

July 3, 1951 — June 9, 2024

Backus, MN

Curtis J Peterson (Curt) passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024, surrounded by family and love.

Curt and a friend joined the Army and served 3 years in Panama and then later joined the National Guard, retiring as a Captain with over 20 years of serving his Country. He was also known for his many years of Managing the Holiday in Pine River and for driving buses for the City of Pine River.

If you knew Curt you had a friend for life. He always said a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet. It was his goal to meet somebody everywhere he went. His smile was contagious and he had the most addictive laugh. Curt was an avid fisherman, who was a member of the Grumpy Old Men Club of Norway Lake. As soon as the ice was safe, that is where you would find him, drinking coffee and telling jokes. When Curt wasn’t using his fish whistle to catch fish you could probably find him chasing after the grandkids, there wasn't a game or a race far enough to keep Curt away. He supported and cheered for his grandkids in every activity they had; along with cheering for everyone else's kids. That's just the way he was. He was affectionately known as Grandpa Curt everywhere he went. Curt was a generous man and would help anybody at any time. He had a love for life that was envied by many. This world will be a drearier place without him in it.

Curt is survived by his sister, Sharil Gonder; daughter, Tessa (Clayton) Caird; and son, Ryan Peterson (Amber). He has 6 grandchildren, Lydea (Haliegh), Alex (Raina), Waylon, Carter, Reed and Conner; a great-granddaughter, Adilynn; and an angel grandson, Brenden. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Beverly, and many nieces and nephews. Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Veda Peterson; and brothers, Earl, Maurice, John, Donald and Douglas. In true Curt fashion one last dad joke: Why did the onion get flustered? It saw the salad dressing.....

A service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Riverview Church, Pine River, with visitation one hour prior. A visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Friday, June 14, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River.
