Clara was born September 14, 1916 in Plattsmouth, NE, the daughter of Lee and Clara Wilhemina (Miller) Fickler. On August 15, 1936, she was united in marriage to Harold H. Erbes. In 1939, Clara joined the Nazarene Church in Council Bluffs and was active in their Sunday School program and missionary society. In October of 1989, she moved to Little Falls before settling in Brainerd. She faithfully attended church until 2 weeks prior to her passing.
She graduated from Iowa Westera Community College as an LPN and worked at Omaha Veterans Hospital and Iowa School for the Deaf. She lived independently in Woodland Apartments until 2014 when she moved to Oakwood Assisted Living where she made friends and received excellent care. Clara left an impression on everyone that she met – for some she will be remembered for her unrivaled spunk or her sassy way with words and for others it was the strength in the way she loved them. Clara was a caretaker; she has touched countless hearts in her 100 years and will be missed by many.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Deb (Michael) Strobel, of Merrifield; daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Don) Linker, of Wright City, MO; grandchildren, Chris (Renee) Erbes, of Treynor, IA, David Erbes, of Council Bluffs, IA, Austin (Karissa) Adams, of Pillager, Katie (Nick) Craig, of Wright City, MO, Angie Adams, of Brainerd, Jamie Brutcher, of Aspen, CO, and Jaci (Justin Ohotto) Brutcher, of Merrifield; and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Addison, Lane, Wyatt, and Alexander.
