Byron Huseby

Byron Glen Huseby, of Nisswa, MN, passed away on Sunday, July 5th, 2026, at home with his family by his side. He was 86.

Byron was born August 15, 1939, in Minneapolis, MN, to Raymond Huseby and Hazel Langkos. He graduated from Rosevelt High School and went on to the University of Minnesota before he was drafted into the army in 1963. In 1967 he began his career with the Minneapolis Fire Department.

On October 30th, 1965, he married Betty Hammer in Minneapolis. They became loving parents to two children, Tim and Cindy. The family moved to Apple Valley on Farquar Lake where they finished building their first home. After 30 years of service, he retired from the fire department. In 2006 they moved to Nisswa to the second home they built. He was very active in the Nisswa American Legion as the service officer and color guard. Byron and Betty were married for 60 years.

Byron loved the outdoors. He hunted deer with friends, his son and grandson. In his younger years he enjoyed bird and elk hunting. He spent many weekends fishing and camping with family and friends. Byron enjoyed entertaining friends at their pool and lake in Apple Valley. He also enjoyed scuba diving on many trips in the Caribbean. After retirement Bryon and Betty traveled south for the winters in their RV. He was very proud to say they made it to all 50 states.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty, sister Carol Johnson; son Tim (Colette) Huseby; daughter Cindy (Dan Pruhomme) Huseby; grandson, Erik (Mahyle Furman) Huseby; granddaughter Ashley Huseby, and many In-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joanne Kibby and brother-in-law Lemoine Johnson.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, with a visitation one hour prior to the start of the service. He will be laid to rest at the Minnesota State Veterans cemetery in Little Falls. There will be a light luncheon served following the service.
