Bruce Mitchell

Bruce K. Mitchell, a longtime resident of Big Lake, died Dec. 31, 2010,
following a long battle against Alzheimer�s. Bruce was born April 11, 1923,
to Lena and Hugh Mitchell Sr. He attended school in Big Lake. He enlisted
with the Merchant Marines during World War II. Bruce married his high school
sweetheart Betty Mae Hanson on March 31, 1945, and they resided in the Big
Lake area. Through the years, Bruce was an active member of the community.
He owned Mitchell Feed and Seed until his sons took over the business. He
also was a volunteer firefighter and church council member at Saron Lutheran
Church.
Bruce is already missed by his children Bonnie (John) Person, Bob Mitchell,
Brenda (Mike) Olson, Bevin (Diane) Mitchell and Brent Mitchell; brothers,
Bud (Harold) of Big Lake and Scott of Elk River; 31 great grandchildren; and
one great-great grandson. Bruce was fortunate to find a great companion,
Aileen Edwards also of Big Lake, to share many happy days and years with
following the death of Betty in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, parents, one sister and three
brothers.
A memorial gathering is being planned for spring of 2011.
