Bonnie Oanes

December 17, 1933 — March 9, 2020

Bonnie J. Oanes, age 86, of Brainerd and formerly of Maple Grove died Monday, March 9, 2020 at Essentia Health – St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral services will be at 11AM on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter. Rev. Hans Anderson will officiate and burial will be in Minnesota State Veteran Cemetery, near Little Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home in Baxter.

Bonnie was born on December 17, 1933 in Hatton, North Dakota to Helmer and Lola (Swenson) Frydenlund. She grew up in a rural farming community in North Dakota. Following high school graduation, Bonnie attended nurses training in North Dakota. She met the love of her life, Harold “Harry” Oanes, while sitting by the pool one day in California. Harry promised to take Bonnie to Disneyland if she would do the small favor of marrying him. The couple married on April 25, 1958 in Larimore, North Dakota. Bonnie worked as a nurse for over 35 years, primarily at Fairview Southdale. Bonnie was able to travel the world with her family, as Harry’s military career brought the family many new adventures. During her nursing career Bonnie enjoyed working with babies but found her greatest fulfillment in working with those that were terminally ill. Bonnie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd. She enjoyed watching do-it-yourself shows, gardening, decorating her home, shopping and remaining fashion forward, and cooking. Bonnie was kind, family oriented, generous, and giving. She taught her sons that family always comes first and be good to everybody. Bonnie will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Cindy (Ron) Solomonson of Webster, WI, Keith (Patricia) Oanes of Eagle, ID, Eric (Jill) Oanes of Breezy Point; brother, Gordon Frydenlund of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Joselyn Oanes, Nathan Oanes, Melissa “Missy” Solomonson, Ryan Solomonson; great grandchildren, Ryan Oanes, Nicky Whitcomb, and Devin Whitcomb.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold “Harry” Oanes; brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Frydenlund.
