Betty Smith

Betty A. Smith, 84, Staples, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Lakewood Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at NOON, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Fr. Joe Korf officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather Friday afternoon from 4-6 PM, with prayers at 4:30 PM and Rosary at 6 PM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and one hour prior to Mass on Saturday at the church. Interment at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.

Betty was born June 2, 1933, in a Log Cabin in Wadena County, the daughter of Anton and Hattie (Jaglo) Wonders. After graduating from high school, Betty married Clifford Smith in 1952. She worked as a baker for the Hospital for 13 years and was a Gramma at the Elementary School for 18 years. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Betty enjoyed playing Bingo, feeding and watching birds, and her beloved dog.

She will be missed by her children, Dawn (Rick) Adamietz, of Staples, Dan (Suzanne), of Becker, Steve (Sheila), of St. Paul, Greg (Ann) Albuquerque, NM, Becky (Al) Smith, of Tucson, AZ, Jim, of Albuquerque, NM, and Barb Smith, of Staples; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Tony (Pat) Wonders, of Yakima, WA; sister-in-law, Gayle Wonders, of Staples; family friend, Neil Koppes, of Staples; sister-in-law, Marge Wonders and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Bobby, Billy, Margie Mallory, Jimmy and Jerry.
