Bessie Jenkins

Bessie Agnes Jenkins, 94, of Baxter, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Good Samaritan Society - Bethany in Brainerd. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 11, 2012 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brainerd. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will take place in Lincoln, NE.

Bessie was born April 8, 1918, in Sutherland, NE on the family farm, the daughter of George and Abbie (Fahey) Morgan. Following high school, Bessie continued her education. On April 3, 1942, she was united in marriage to James A. Jenkins. The couple made their home in various parts of the world as James served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. In addition to being a homemaker, Bessie also worked as a chemical dependency counselor. The couple retired to Lincoln, NE before his death in 1991. Bessie moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1993 to be near her daughter, Mary and her family. Bessie enjoyed people. She liked to bird watch, do jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and read. She truly treasured time with her family and grandchildren.

She will be missed by her children, Judy (George) McKeighan, of Lincoln, NE, Jim (Karen) Jenkins, of Eugene, OR, and Mary (Dan) Kadlec, of Baxter; sister, Betty Fox, of Lincoln, NE; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sister, Nora; and brothers, Russ and Rudy.
