Avery Anderson

"Andy" Avery R. Anderson, 86, Died on January 9, 2011 at Edgewood Vista senior living apartments in Brainerd, Minnesota. Memorial services for Andy will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Brenny Funeral Chapel of Pequot Lakes with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pequot Lakes Cemetery.

Andy is survived by a son Erik Anderson of London, England; two Grandchildren, Mason and Mariah Anderson; one Nephew, Richard E Anderson of Pequot Lakes; and one niece, Joyce Humphrey of Pine River.

Born and Raised in Sharon, North Dakota, the son of Adolph and Amanda (Ostrem) Anderson. He had three siblings, Earl M Anderson of Pequot Lakes, Lloyd W. Anderson of Mesa, Arizona and Lillian Y. Leither of Auburn, California and one infant son who preceded him in death. In his early years Andy helped on the family farm and assisted in his father's general store. After graduating Sharon High School in 1942, Andy moved to Oakland, California where he started working in the ship yards. Not long after his move, he was drafted into the US Army where he served his country as a veteran of World War II. He served in the Century Division of the 7th Army. He landed on Utah Beach Normandy, France on D Day, June 6th, 1944. He and his unit fought their way to Belgium. He was a patient at the US Army Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, along with General Patton in December 1945. He was also a member of the Jenkins VFW. After his honorable discharge, he was employed by Anheuser Busch brewing company in Van Nuys, California where he led a successful career as a Brew Master.

He resided in California most of his life, He retired at the young age of 55 where he enjoyed traveling on long summer breaks with his wife Sue and son Erik. He always kept himself busy and enjoyed working in his hobby shop on various projects. Andy was an avid ham radio operator and was an assessor for Crow Wing County following his retirement. Andy was a free spirited individual who lived life on his terms, he wasn't one to take orders, but could certainly give them out, which made him a unique individual and quite a character to those who knew him. In his later years Andy moved back to Pequot Lakes to enjoy and be closer to family members.
