Arlene D Haynes, 73, of Brainerd, died Sunday, November 27 at St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd. Funeral Services for Arlene will be 10 AM, Friday, December 2 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with the Reverend Bob Hoeff officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, MN.
Arlene was born September 19, 1932 in Howard Lake, MN to William August and Charlotte (Haag) Gerber. She grew up in Howard Lake and graduated from high school there. After high school, Arlene was trained as an LPN at the Willmar Hospital. She then entered the Navy served in Great Lakes, Ill. She was united in marriage to Jerry Shiver and the couple made Georgia their home for many years. Arlene continued to work as a nurse. Following their divorce in the 1960s, she returned to Minnesota to be near family. In the late 1980s, Arlene moved to the Brainerd area to be near her son and his family. Arlene enjoyed puzzles and reading. She was very active in her faith life. Arlene was an avid bird watcher and a member of the Brainerd American Legion.
Arlene is survived by her sons, Hugh (Leslie) Shiver, of Deerwood, MN, Howard (Neva) Shiver, of Pine Mountain, GA; her daughter, Cindy (Randy) Eller, of Pittsview, AL; her siblings, Audrey Hintz, of Eden Valley, MN, Dorothy Wicklund, of Fridley, MN, David Gerber, of Newark, CA, Gretchen Lofing, of Edina, MN, Yvonne BonnieEngel, of Howard Lake, MN, Robert Gerber, of Minnetonka, MN, and Susan Colley, of Texas; and eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
