Alice Granby

Alice Rose Emma (Knapper) Granby, 88, of Staples, MN passed away July 28, 2021 at

Staples Care Center.   Alice was born at home near Leader, MN to Alice Ruth (Erickson) Knapper & Daniel Frank Knapper, on May 20, 1933.  She married Carl Wesley Granby on June 26, 1952 at Swan Valley Lutheran Church in Byron Township.

Alice was preceeded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents, Dan & Alice Knapper; brothers, & sister-in-laws: Martin & Edna Knapper; George & Robin Knapper; Ernest & Ladona Knapper; Charles Knapper; Irvin Knapper;  Harold Knapper;  Marvin Knapper;  sister &  brother-in-law Marie & Earl Elestad;  Granddaughter, Amy Granby; & Great Grandson, Tristen Granby.

Alice is survived by her six children: Keith (Vicki) Granby of Staples, MN;  Charlene (Duane) Breid of Lakeville, MN;   Beverly (Dave) Grose of Sauk Rapids,MN;  Carl (Lila) Granby of Staples, MN;   Orel (Alice) Granby of Staples, MN;   &  Bruce (Julie) Granby of Staples, MN;  18 Grand Children;  24 Great Grand Children; one Great Great Grand Child; brother & sister-in-law: Albert & JoAnne Knapper;  sister-in-laws: Margaret (Charles) Knapper; Shirley (Irvin) Knapper;  Pat (Marvin) Knapper; & Alvina (Harold) Knapper.

Besides raising a large family, helping care for Carl's parents, and, helping with some of the farming, Alice always raised a big garden to help feed the growing family.  She enjoyed sewing & taught her daughters & granddaughters how to sew.  Alice & Carl were past members of Swan Valley Lutheran Church & more recently, Faith Lutheran in Staples.  She was an active member of the Poplar Ladies Birthday Club and Ladies Aide where she became involved with Mission Quilter group, making hundreds of quilts with them.  She made numerous "Lady Quilts", at least one for each of her children; one for each of her grandchildren, "for their wedding present"; and one for each great granddaughter as 1st Birthday gifts, several for raffle prizes for church, and even sold a few.  She also loved to hand embroidery dish towels, pillow cases, and read books.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, MN, Thursday, August 5, at 10:30am with Pastor Carl Larson officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.  Interment will be at the Poplar Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Staples.
