Obituary

Paul David Wick, 59, Staples, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Lakewood Health System in Staples, with his loving family at his side.  Paul’s funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, January 8th at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, with Pastor Carl Larson, officiating.  Visitation will be Tuesday, January 7th from 5 to 8 PM at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Staples, and for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Paul was born on November 20, 1960 in St. Paul, son of Helmer “Sam” and Velma (Waisanen) Wick.  He grew up and received his education in Grand Rapids and continued his education at the Duluth Business University in Duluth.  He was united in marriage with Lonna Walls of Grand Rapids in 1983, became a father with the birth of their son Adam, and worked as a banker in the Brainerd area.  He moved to Staples, where he married Christie Berg of Crosby in 1994, was blessed with their sons Jordan and Ryan, and worked at Security State Bank, later Unity Bank.  He was united in marriage with Lisa (Sadusky) Haglin of Staples on July 24, 2010 aboard the Breezy Belle at Breezy Point Resort.  They continued to make their home in Staples.  He was currently employed as vice-president at Star Bank in Bertha.

Paul was a loving husband, proud father, devoted brother, and giving friend.  He loved deeply and gave with every ounce of his heart.  He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and a special way of making people laugh.  He enjoyed mowing the lawn and doing yard work, playing and watching all sports, boating, fishing and hunting, sitting by the fire, and spending time at the Wick Family cabin ‘up north’.

Survivors include his wife: Lisa Wick of Staples; children: Adam (Ashley) Wick of Farmington, Jordan Wick of St. Paul, Ryan Wick of Staples; stepchildren: Alyssa (Jared) Peterson of Savage, Brandon (Chelsea) Haglin of Williston, ND, Karlee (Matthew) Chenoweth of Browerville, and Jordan Haglin of Nashville, TN; grandchildren: Kendra, Kyla, Ezekiel, Elena, Jaymee, Ameara, Lydia, and Devin; siblings: Cathy (Terry) Madsen of Grand Rapids & Keith Wick of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents: Sam & Velma Wick.  Memorials are preferred and greatly appreciated.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel of Staples.  www.brenny.com
