Darwood Carlisle Swift (Charlie) (Swifty), 85, of Fifty Lakes, MN died Friday, April 26, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society-Bethany Brainerd, MN. Services for Charlie will be 11:00AM, Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church Swanburg, with Pastor Jon Yarger officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Swanburg Cemetery.
Charlie was born August 5, 1933 in St. Paul, MN to Edward and Clara (Leppla) Swift. He enjoyed his early years in Inver Grove Heights, and graduated in the class of 1951 from South St. Paul High School. Charlie proudly served as an Air Force MP, stationed in Newfoundland during the Korean Conflict. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he was employed by the Ford Motor Company at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant until his retirement. Charlie was a member of the Ford Local #879 UAW and the American Legion Post 500 of Crosslake, MN. He spent many years, with Kate and his children by his side, and also with the help of many family and friends, building their dream lakehome in Fifty Lakes. Charlie and Kate were able to enjoy quite a few retirement road trips, most notably Alaska, before settling in to enjoy many Winter seasons in Mission, Texas. Charlie enjoyed all things relating to the lakehome and the northwoods, notably captaining his pontoon in his later years. He dearly loved his family above all else.
Charlie is survived by his children, Steven (Jackie) Swift and Laurie Howard; sister, Eleanor Griffin; grandchildren, Dan (Danielle) Swift and Leah (Kyle) Engelstad, great grandchildren, Morgan, Mason and Zachary Swift. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Swift; his loving wife, Kathleen (Kate); brother, Dolliver; and son in law, Tom Howard.
