Mabel Swart

Mabel Swart, 96, of Staples, Minnesota passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples, MN. Services for Mabel will be 10:30AM, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Staples, with Pastor Barry Klein officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Friday, May 19 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and also beginning at 10AM on Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Browerville.

Mabel was born August 27, 1920 in Wadena County, Minnesota to Fredrick and Tracy (Schwartz) Beurge. As a child, Mabel dreamed of becoming a lawyer. Life interrupted her. Mabel was united in marriage to Virgil Swart on December 19, 1937; and together they raised five children. They lived and farmed on Turtle Lake most of her adult life. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Staples and was baptized on December 26, 1960. Mabel loved her church, reading her Bible, and enjoyed teaching many Sunday school classes as well. She studied and earned her GED from Staples High School and proudly graduated on January 27, 1970. Mabel enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, knitting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Mabel is survived by her children, Murrel Swart of Brooklyn Park, MN, Sheila Spangler of Milford, MI, Ramona Kastanek of Fridley, MN, Jerome Swart of Coon Rapids, MN, Cynthia McCabe of Esko, MN; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Tracy; husband, Virgil; three infant brothers, Edward, Charles and Paul; brother, Walter; sisters, Lucille, Lila, Hazel, Dorothy; and grandson, Thomas Swart. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
