Evelyn Tholl

On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Evelyn Dorothy Tholl passed away in her sleep at the Lakewood Care Center at the age of 94. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00AM, Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley, MN, with Father Joe Korf officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7PM, Monday, December 18th at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Motley Public Cemetery.

Evelyn was born at her grandparents’ home in Bronson, Michigan, on January 21, 1923, daughter of Frank and Helen Kibiloski. She had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Evelyn went to school in a one-room country school graduating from 8th grade in 1936 where she reigned as the spelling bee champ. She then attended Bronson High School where she graduated in 1940 at the age of 17. Evelyn also completed a Home Economics Short Course from Michigan State College in 1941. After graduation she worked in a sewing factory and later as a bookkeeper for a trucking company in Kalamazoo , MI. She also met and married Marcus Tholl on February 23, 1946, in Kalamazoo. To the union 2 children, Harold and Connie were born. They made their home near Motley, MN, where they farmed first with dairy cattle then raising beef cattle. She moved into a home in Motley in 1996 where she remained until she fell and broke her hip in 2012. Evelyn spent the last 5 years in the Lakewood Care Center where she enjoyed attending almost all the activities even though macular degeneration made it hard for her to participate. Evelyn was very active volunteering her time at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley. She cooked and served many weddings, dinners, and funerals at the church throughout the years and served as the president of the Christian Mother’s group. Evelyn also volunteered at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. She loved cooking, socializing, dancing, trivia games, playing cards, old thyme music, her pets, fishing, watching TV and telling jokes. Evelyn also enjoyed attending her 40th, 50th, 60th, and 70th class reunions in Michigan as well as the Polish Festival Days there. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She told anyone who would listen about them and their accomplishments showing everyone their pictures.

Evelyn is survived by her son Harold, Motley, MN; daughter, Connie (Preston) Mattke, Spicer. MN; her grandchildren, Mark Tholl (Cecilia), Tucson, AZ, Justin Tholl, Motley, MN, Jason Tholl (Melissa), Anchorage, AK, Mandy Mattke (Rui Raposo), Shorewood, MN, Angie Mattke (John Schmitz), Rochester, MN; and great-grandchildren, Griffin and Graham Schmitz, and Kai Raposo. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus, in 1986, and her parents and siblings. Services have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
