Jean S. Halvorson

Jean S. Halvorson, 55, of Brainerd, died Thursday, October 25, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 29, 2012 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church with Father Tony Wroblewski officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather Sunday afternoon from 12 PM – 3 PM with Parish Prayers at 2:45 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Following the mass, a Celebration of Her Life will be held at Timbermist in Brainerd. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.

Jean was born January 22, 1957, in Wilmar, MN, the daughter of Kenneth and Helen (Schmeling) Hanson. She graduated from Litchfield High School before attending the University of Minnesota where she received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Medical Technology. In 1979, she married Ronald Halvorson. Jean was always active with the children’s school activities – she often volunteered to chaperone field trips. She was a Cub Scout Leader and enjoyed taking the scouts to the Boundary Waters for canoe trips. Prior to moving to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1999, they lived in San Antonio, TX and Sioux Falls, SD. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter C. J. as well as a member of St. Claire’s Guild at St. Andrew’s Church. She volunteered for Habitat for Humanity. She had many talents – she enjoyed cooking and finding new recipes and was a great seamstress – she even designed and had sewn her own wedding dress. Jean also enjoyed doing crafts and creating handmade gifts for family and friends. Jean played many games and enjoyed the challenge of puzzles. She loved her family and friends and spending time with them was important to her.

She will be missed by her husband, Dr. Ronald; her children, Anthony (Amanda), Timothy, and Patrick; grandchildren, Abigail, Elijah, Isabell, and Maria; siblings, Jim (Donna) Hansen, Ann (Mark) Lien, John (Lori) Hansen, Robert (Kathy) Hansen, Nancy (Dick) Bachmeier, and Richard (Linda) Hansen; parents, Helen and Kenneth Hansen; best friend, Sue (Ron) Obeidezinski; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Christopher and her grandparents.
